Not only did we miss our interactions with our extended families we missed the micro-interactions with the flight attendant, restaurant server, or coffee barista. Although we did our best online to maintain and even build relationships, the online world is no comparison to in-person human interaction, as several studies have shown. The need to touch, hug and smile in close proximity are all social norms that promote a thriving community.
